Ahh...The picturesque gardens of the Chateau de Nom Nom.

Look! Its ACTUALLY starting to look like a back yard now! WOO!  Our stone path we're slowly building to the deck is coming along. You can tell which step is the new one.  The lights posted are the ones we usually bring to war. But I wanted to get more use out of them. Also a good excuse to get newer, brighter ones for war.  Our Blood Orange tree is looking good! And our Pomagranate tree is thriving.  We may have more than one pomagranate this year!...Um ignore the giant piece of plywood there..that's Max's table top for war gaming that still hasn't been put away yet.

The beginings of the herb and flower garden I'm starting around the deck. My English Lavender is doing well though I still have yet to get some blooms on it again. It might be getting too much sun.  My Lemon Thyme loves the sun though and so does my strawberries. The Strawberries have spread and started two other bushes. Going to have to keep an eye on it so they don't overtake everything. That reminds me, I need to put some slug repellant on the strawberries so we actually can HAVE strawberries to eat. To the side there is my new Thai Basil. My last Thai Basil didn't make it through the unusual rainy season. And the pink flowers are my Zenneas. They are annuals and I'm not usually too crazy about annuals but since the winters in SD are so mild, I'm hoping they'll last a bit longer here.

The teeeeeeny little blooms on my Lemon Thyme.:)

I bought a small pallet of Zenneas. So I put three in the ground and three in some pots I happened to have laying around. I was really taken by the pink color. Hopefully the crazy rain today didn't wash them away.

African Marigolds! I love Marigolds so much. These were so insanely Yellow that I had to have them in my yard. Once again, They're annuals but since SD is so mild, they might last longer than usual. I Love how bright yellow they are.

The beginings of my patch of ground cover. Its mini iSo ceplant. My uncle used to keep iceplant in his back yard. its a great ground cover but I'll just need to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't go crazy. I love the bright orange flowers. Heee!

Jasmine! I have Jasmine in my yard now! HEEE! I always wanted Jasmine. I love the smell SO much. The trellis is from when we had pole beans growing in the back yard. The pole beans are gone now so I desided to make good use of the trellis. Oh it smells so good.

And that's what we have so far! Max will be planting more veggies soon in the up coming weeks. We just need to get the patch ready for it. And We're hoping this summer to build some planter boxes for Tomatoes soon. I'm also considering building some small planter boxes to put out by my studio for some sun loving flowers, just to dress up that area in the yard. right now its pretty drab. But we'll see if we get to that this year or next year. And we'll eventually save up for some patio furnature.
Soon, back yard Tea Party!

My recollection of marigolds is that if you let the flowers stay on the stems, they do a pretty good job of re-seeding themselves for next year. (Of course, as a rule, the more energy a plant gets to put into creating seeds, the less energy it will put into creating flowers.) I also recall that a marigold border acts as a great deterrent for snails. And I think the petals are edible, so you can have that vivid yellow as an accent in salads and things.

awesome! Flowers and a nice herb/ veggie garden are one of the few reasons I might be convinced to get a backyard one day!
