I seriously believe I am one of the only people in the world that is completely indifferent about Twilight. And I get a lot of shit about it from both sides. Granted, I won't pass up making a joke or two about it. But then I really don't pass up making a joke or two about a lot of pop culture things out there. Sometimes its just too easy.
I'v only seen the movies. I haven't read the books..strike that...I ready the first three chapters of the first book then ended up getting distracted and picking up something else. Frankly,  vampire romance thing isn't really my cup of tea. It never was. I only read one vampire romance novel before and it was full of awesome hot sex. so minus the sex, its not really my thing.  I'm a fan of the bloody thirsty scary vampires (Like in Near Dark, my favorite vampire film ever. Severen is scary, sexy, and a friggin' bad ass). I didn't even really dig Anne Rice's vamps too much...they were kind of pussies, really. So the concept of Twilight its a bit of a hard sell for me. The whole thing is more or less a retelling of Romeo and Juliet...well okay it has teens as stupid as Romeo and Juliet in it. Its a story that has been told thousands of times. Its hardly the fall of western civiliation...THAT privilage is reserved for Rock Of Love of VH1.
But hey, if you wanna hate it, feel free. The ranting is EPIC to read!
The only thing that bothers me about Twilight are the fans. Both how they are treated and the batshit crazy ones. As I tend to tell lots of my friends about Twilight  "Don't hate the player, hate the game". Not every fan of it is a raving lunitic. Hell, just because I love Harry Potter doesn't mean I run around on a broom stick thinking I can fly. The majority of my friends who are fans to Twilight aren't raving, desparate, insecure, women. They're fantastic, strong, opinionated, and smart ladies who just happens to like the romance aspect. Don't tell them they suck just because they like it.  Every fandom has their crazies...Trust me. I still think the Harry Potter fandom has far worse ones than Twilight.
But in turn, hey crazy fangirls? Seriously, Twilight isn't the end all be all of romances. Go to a book store and look up some Jane Austin or Bronte. Hell, if you want a sexy brooding Gothic hero and a plain woman romance, go buy a copy of Jane Eyre. No vampires or werewolves...but a lot of batshit crazy Victorians.  Also, as much fun as it is to pretend that the dark brooding handsome outsider loves you and  ONLY YOU can bring him redemption...yeah brooding outsiders suck as boyfriends. Seriously. They are pains in the ass that will only give you a headache as you try to please them. Life is too short to waste on a 'Fixer Upper". So unless they have a 10 inch penis, go find yourself a nice secure geek  that makes you laugh and treats you like gold, instead. Or better yet, don't friggin worry about getting into a relationship. I didn't have a boyfriend at all in highschool. I think I turned out pretty damn cool.  Hell, i'd probably be single right now if Max didn't happen to show up and never leave.

I actually have full intentions of checking the series out but probably not for a while. I have a lot of other books on my plate...mostly involving zombies. (And I really think I'd be more interested in Twilight if there were zombies. Even if they sparkled).

LoL. I dunno about the fans. Stereotypes are what they are for a reason much of the time. Sure there are some sane ones, but so far that I've seen, not many.

One of the actors was at our mall today, and I didn't know that, and I got shoved and stampeded on while I was trying to buy shoes. Payless actually pulled their cage down and asked me do I want in or out? In, please. Then they let me out the employee exit. Seriously.

Also, our local movie theater closed it's info line for the last three months and just left a recorded message saying they didn't know when Twilight tickets would go on presale, but please stop calling. LOL.

Of course.....Erie sucks in general.....so....

*LOL* I'm guessing the Twilight fans are a bit more mellow on the west coast. But then two of my best friends (Ty and Stacy) are huge fans and probably the least fangirlish people around. Hell I embarass them more when I see the trailer for Deathly Hollows or go on the Indiana Jones ride...I squee...loudly..VERY loudly.
I blame the squeeing for Indy completely on my overies..For good reason. OMG!!! I will take Indy over a vampire ANY damn day!

I don't personally know too many fans of the series. I'm just trying to figure out why the hell it's so popular. My girlfriend and I watched the first movie... well, no, we started watching it, and then we ended up MiSTing it. It was impossible for me to care about any of those characters. The writing and acting wouldn't let me.

And apparently, sunlight makes vampires look FABULOUS! I still refuse to believe I saw that. So for me, it's not that I find the fandom annoying, I just want to know what it is they see in the franchise.

As far as I'm concerned, people saying that the new Twilight movie will be the best one is like saying that "Revenge of the Sith" was the best Star Wars prequel.

I will agree that the first movie was AWFUL. Really awful. And Even Ty agrees with me on that one too. It was just badly directed and badly written.
I did see New Moon though and I found it pretty entertaining. It was really well directed and the script movied along nicely. I found myself more invested in the first movie than the second. Its still not my thing though...and overall I'd probably rather see it in my livingroom and in a theater with 13 screaming teens.
I can kinda see what people like in the franchise a bit, being someone who loves romance novels. Like I said, its not my cup of tea..I like the guys in my romance novels COMPLETELY different from Edward and Jacob...and usually wielding a sword...But keep in mind I'm 34 and not exactly the target audience here.

This. Although I have serious ideological issues with the stories, I am not and never will be cool with the people who bag on the series because it's too "girlie" and therefore stupid or trivial, or the people who bag on the fans for not being "feminist enough". I've actually been working on a really long blog post about this and a number of other inter-related things because there's a lot of people on both sides of this debate who need to take a pill and breathe into a paper bag for a while. Too much hate in the room.

Also, I would really love it if I could find a fan of the series who could articulate for my why they love it so much. I don't get it, but I'd like to at least try to get why people are so drawn to it, but everything I've been able to find online is not what I'm looking for at all. "Edward Cullen is so dreamy" is not explaining to me why so many people are so nuts for it.

I think my friend Ty put it best. When she was in highschool she lacked stability and security, like Bella. That drew her to Bella. And since all the characters in Twilight strived to give this girl the stability and security she wanted, that is what drew her to Edward. He didn't represent the dreamy guy but he and his family represented the security and stability that she lacked. That is what made her latch onto the book as much as she did.
I think that was the best explanation I've gotten about the love for the books.

the rabid fangirls scare me. I'm all about some eye candy on screen and hey even better if they have a personality, but I don't think I'm too over the top. I heard on the radio that there were fights breaking out at the midnight premiere here in town o.O that's taking the whole team vs team thing a bit too far...

I'll be seeing in probably tomorrow or saturday morning ^_^

Romance is perfectly okay. Making romantic ideals of someone with the textbook checklist personality of a serious meth addict and selling that as 'ideal' to thirteen-year old girls just is -not- going to have good results. Everything else is really just kinda meh or wtf.

I would just like to say that even a 10-inch penis doesn't make it worth it. *blush*

Twilight is like soccer: a lot of running around for 2 hours, there's no action, and all the fans tell you that you "just don't understand. :P
