So this War?
Best War in a LONG time. I mean war has always been fun, but this year was fanFREAKINtastic. It was a combo of little to no drama as well as just keeping busy and reconnecting with awesome people that kept it fun.
I took very little photos so I'll probably post what I have then snag some things from friends to post. I need to poke Lady Eva for the "talking boobs" picture...that I will explain later on. So...recap? Yes Recap:
Tuesday:
Got home from work. Rebok was nice enough to meet me at Chateau de Nom Nom to take me up the mountain so I didn't have to bring the car up ( we already had the truck up there) We headed on up after packnig some last minute things and made it before sunset. We chilled a bit and got camp set up, though all I really did was haul some things into the yurt since Max had it up on Monday. We sat around the fire and BSed until we all got sleepy and went to bed.
Wednesday:
Set Up Day! WOOO! The day we all busted ass and almost broke ourselves! Ketill and I were put in charge of logistics this year and if I do say so myself, we ROCKED it. Well, I think we rocked it. Ketill is good at keeping the details straight and I like to think I'm good at the big picture so the two of us really worked well together. We managed to get almost everything set up on Wednesday in record time. Go Team Logisitcs! I managed to also get to know some more folks from House Leviathan since they showed up EN MASS for set up. Leviathan was getting a bad rep the last few wars for being trouble makers. Chess and Shulamuit Shul was/is a San Diego Costume designer I've worked with for many years actually) who are heads of Leviathan contacted Iron Maiden in hopes we could help them get on track to getting their rep back in order. So we encouraged them to sign up for set up crew. And man did those guys kick ASS. I was really hapy to see them not only work but ENJOYING their work time and being willing at any moment to drop the beer and come to the rescue of the rest of us tired and broken logsitics folks.
Volunteer dinner was yummy meatballs...and a few glasses of wine for me. I was feeling NO pain by the time dinner was done. We ended up crashing early that night.
Thursday:
First day of war! I ran around most of the morning trying to put out little logisitc fires (We need more chairs here! We need a pop up there! Etc etc...). I learned the joys of driving the Titan around the sight with people loaded onto the back. I didn't lose a one! Ketill had to head down the mountain the night before because his bed deflated. He came back just in time to do some jobs I really didn't want to do ;D. The calls on the radio became less and less fequent and around noonish war was completely open and we were more or less completely set up.
SO I went shopping...
And I bought a ton of buttons and trim when the merchants were open.
We had our Halfla/Middle Eastern Party/screw it, we're drumming and dancing event as soon as the sun went down. Clouse and Rock, two amazing drummers came by to play with our fellas and it was a ROCKING evening. We had a good group of people show up and some fantastic dancers as well. I even got up and did a little dancing as well. I'm sure I looked like a mac truck up there but I had fun...so screw it. Bask in my white girlishness, bitches! Definitely some of the best drumming we had in Maiden in a Loooooong time. It was awesome. Even Ellyn, who just learned to drum that afternoon joined in as well as Dan. I ended up crashing shortly after I danced a hip into submission...out of practice am I.
Friday:
I was really groggy on Friday so I don't remember much other than Katie coming in. WOO KATIE! Mike and Joe filtered in by then too so we were more or less complete. Unfortunately Trishana got hung up at work so she wasn't able to make it. BOOO! We Love you Trish! You were totally missed!
That night was rum tasters which was...epic? Is that a word for it? More like an asault on one's taste buds. Most of the rums were good, but two...holy Hell. I never spit rum out on the ground before...this time I did...twice. Wow...Katie, Dan...just wow. Katie won the dreaded "Black Seal" award for worst rum. She requested I make her a Black Seal favor for her belt that says "Black Seal winner, 2010 "Bring It On"" ....Long story but it did involve us chating "Black Seal! Black Seal! Black Seal!" At her while she shouted 'BRING IT ON! BRING IT ON!" back at us. Hilarity insued...and kept insuing because for Mike's birthday we gave him a Mock Trial which involved us bringing up all the crazy shit he did over the last 30 years of his life. The topics included the fire baley he knocked over, the cooler he destroyed, the waister he tripped over and called a rock, the women he brought home, the monkey he had sex with...okay he really didn't have sex with a monkey but it was thrown in there for color. I really don't remember laughing so hard in my life. Some highlighted lines from our man and about our man of the Hour:
Mike...the comedy gift that keeps on giving...
Saturday:
Fire in the hay bales! Seriously. That what we woke up to. I dragged myself out of bed, begging for coffee and a shower. We all sat down to our brekfast burritos when we heard on the radio "...fire in the hay bales. Logisitics? HELP." So we all jumped up...in our PJs no less, and managed to get over to the hay bales to help put out the blaze. Mark ended up booking it up the road on foot...with a bum leg...Holding two fire extingishers over his shoulders. Max...with a bum ankle...followed suit. HOW they beat me Ty, Katie, Rebok, and Beth up (we where in the Titan) is beyond my knowledge. I believe my husband the time lord managed to make a wrinke in time to get themselves up there so fast. Luckily we managed to get the fire out with the help of people in the area starting a bucket burgade. Turned out there was a 12 year old boy screwing around with a lighter and desided to light a hay bale onfire...he paniced when the flames got as big as him. Needless to say the boy ended up getting "a talking to" by the park rangers. After that adventure? Yeah... more laid back the rest of the day.
So Not only was I working as a logisitics autocrat, I was also working as the volunteer raffle autocrat. This ment it was my job to hit up the merchants in merchants row for donations. So I went around with Eleigh to meet the merchants and get some awesome shwag for our volunteers. They were VERY generous...and I had a chance to scope out some of the great stuff on sale. Afterwards I ran off to buy more stuff..cause thats apparently what I do at war. Griffin's Gate is my favorite merchant. Its run by a great lady named Beth who makes beautiful Persian coats. Persians are really the main staple of my garb and no one makes them more flattering to a woman than her. She has been a friend of Iron Maiden for years and she found out a few years ago that orange is my favorite color. So she constantly is making beautiful orange persians to tempt me. This year I fell to temptation. She made this mazingly beautiful print coat in orange brown, green and some blue. Stunning sunset colors. I bought it. She was also sweet and made a pair of orange pants to go with it. It was a gift. I felt special...and I wore the HELL out of that coat at war. Its now my new favorite garb piece. Much LOVE to the Beth!
Our house meeting was that evening and we voted in our four waisters into the crew. Rebok is now ships Alchemist, Dan is carpenter's mate, Ellyn is full crew, and Ace is ship's stress monkey. They were all overjoyed to be a part of the crew now and believe me when I say we're totally excited to have them aboard.
That night was Scotch Tasters for the guys, and Girls Nite for the ladies. We all went corousing into the night, invading different parties during the evening. We had a "healthy" amount of booze and the evening ended with Ace and I stumbling around with glow sticks stratigically placed around her cleveage to look like a smilely face...which I made talk to people in an attempt to get them to volunteer...or give us free booze. I made Ace's boobies talk to base camp, a couple knights, and the queen. And apparnantly we were quite the hit for the evening. I need to hunt pictures down of this...NEED!
I passed out shortly afterwards.
Sunday:
Hung over?...a tad. Only a tad. I managed to stop drinking before I got way to out of it. Sunday I did some more running around for raffle as wel las logistics stuff. I was really wiped out, that was for sure. After a while I tried to take a nap in the yurt but it got too hot in there..so I just got back out and tried sitting and drinking water. I didn't think much about my condition until I started getting REALLY dizzy and hot... I managed to set up the raffle then get meet up at baronial for court stuff..only to be sent back to the raffle area. By then apparently I was dehydrated and suffering from mild heat stroke. Max grabbed my arm before I took off again and forced me to sit down and drink some more water. He pratically sat on me to keep me still...because when I get tired I get stubborn and was determined to finish some more work. I have a good hubby who forced me to sit so I would pass out.
Court came and went. Ellyn was entered into the order of the Serpants Fang (?) which is a rapier award, and Jen got her award of arms! WOO! So she is LADY Ysabeau Boucher now. We need to go circlet shopping for her. It was a good day for the Maiden in Court.
That night after I finally recovered and got some food in me, Max and I dropped by a couple places to say hi. We went to talk to Kate and Oliver (who gave us sake..heehee) and a few other people up at Caithness. We came back to camp expecting everyone in Maiden to be out or asleep but were surprised to find that we had another rockin Halfla at camp with Rock and Clouse. The drums were good on Thursday but on Sunday night they were on FIRE! We had a ton of dancers around the fire and Ace and I couldn't hold back. We got the jingle belts on and went out onto the dance floor YET again. We managed to get tired out late into the evening and headed to bed.
Monday:
Tear down was a lot of work but we got it all done. Max and I had a little after party at our place where we all just chilled. Some went to the hot tub, some sat on the couch and ate pizza. It was a great way to unwind after a busy day.
Tuesday:
Jen and Rebok headed home...and I did laundry...all...frickin...day. In fact I STILL have laundry to do when I get home..yikes. O.o
Overall it was a fantastic war. The Maiden as usual, is not only a group of friends but a mighty fine family and we had a blast. This was definitely the mental reboot I needed.

- *Mike touching on Trishana* We miss you Trish...Our only chip in the cookie.
- *Mike greeting Beth who was wearing a glow necklace around her head*...'Sup, Logan's Run?
- *Mike trying to spoon with my husband on the Hammock* PROP 8! PROP 8!!
- *Mike after my husband had to get up for a radio call* ...You're a horrible lover!
- *Mike after putting on some cheesy Pirate gear* Look! Its a clip on!
